funny that you posted about Cyr. I just picked up this piece Saturday at a benefit. He's a Brooklyn-based artist. May try to get in touch for a studio visit for AM.

It is not putting a screw in the wall that is the hard part guys ( by the way thanks I really feel the love here, LOL ) I have about a dozen photos I wanted to cluster, also never sure perfect placement for pieces, etc. Guess I will figure it out I have a couple months, hopefully it will all go good. To hang a bunch of pieces salon style, you can arrange them on the floor until you get the configuration you like, take a digital picture and then reassemble on the wall. And don't worry about "perfect placement." It's nice to move pieces around every once in a while. You get a new perspective that way.

Duties are assessed by the country to which the art is being imported. Most European countries have high duty for things coming from outside the EU, so I would assume Austria does too. You can ask galleries to declare a lesser value for a piece, but sometimes that interferes with insurance, etc., so they might decline. And even if they do it, I'm not sure it always works.
Any Europeans on the board have luck getting around paying duty?

yeah, yokono is amazing. i wish he showed in nyc, other than at art fairs. the 3' circular pieces at pulse miami were $8,500; i think the larger square piece was $15,000. i've been following his work for a while. here's an image of my larger piece, entitled "party."

Yeah. That piece in the Brooklyn Museum lobby was probably the first time I really saw one of his paintings. I was really impressed, and studied it for a long time. But since then, he's been doing the same thing over and over. And seeing his last show at Deitch and the MJ piece at Basel, I feel he really needs to change soon or risk becoming a joke.

One of his pieces for the Josh Liner group show in January. That's gorgeous sleep. Do you remember how big the piece was? It's 3' x 4'

Definitely limited edition. 100, probably less. No chance of getting it for $4,000. I think the first colorway was released on KAWSone.com, and that was more than $4k. Price will probably be closer to $8k.

oh my god. The gallery just offered me a print. I'm still stunned. I mailed them after Audreys livejournal-post about the print, but no one replied to me, so I thought the print will be available to the attendees, but yesterday that nice guy (Kendal Johnson) mailed me, that he has a print left for me. I can't wait to get my money on Tuesday so I can buy it. I'm sooo excited. But the frame is going to be expensive as hell. btw. its #133. Did this happen to anyone else on the board? Kendal is a woman.

I'm thinking about letting go of my McGee bottle to fund other purchases. Unlike the fakes on eBay and most others floating around, mine has gallery provenance. PM me if interested, but know that I'm not desperate, so don't expect to get this for 50% retail. Thanks.

I'm hoping 2010 will be low key compared to 2009. . . something tells me I will be saying the same thing a year from now. On the list for this year: Clayton Brothers Tat Ito Kelsey Brookes Erik Sandberg Andrew Schoultz Matzu nice list. i'm definitely picking up a piece by tat at the liner show. some of the best work i've seen in recent years.

i only saw schoultz at the morgan lehman booth at pulse. r&t seemed to be playing it very "safe" this year, with no schoultz, yamaguchi, leines or even mcgee displayed.

did you see it in the +2 show, seeing as you are a local boy? no. unfortunately, i didn't get the chance to swing through the lower east side. i like these new pieces a lot more than the work Hong showed with sloan before.

It's not every day that The New York Times reviews a painting it comes across on the street. and a good review at that. well-deserved, imho

tessar, you should defintely start collecting.
i'm always jealous of my artist friends, who are able to trade their work with other artists.
