Is it in poor taste to PM a member to ask if they ever decide to sell a certain piece to keep you in mind?

Is it in poor taste to PM a member to ask if they ever decide to sell a certain piece to keep you in mind? I don't think so, I think it's flattering when someone enjoys your collection that much. I've only done it a few times, but I've actually been offered pieces a couple years after asking, so it's worth a shot!

Trying to frame a grouping. First time I have taken on this task. Anyone have an advice? I have about 10 pieces of various sizes. I want to create an eclectic mix. Something where two of the pieces together may not make sense but all 10 together do. Here is an image IMAG0434 by customcourage, on Flickr Disregard the top left piece. The nine newsprint pieces will be together. The top right piece I wanted to frame on the bottom right of the grouping as a signature since its a self portrait of the artist.

Rhyth.. I hope not I just did this today before reading your post, I think the poor taste is when someone contacts you about a work and you agree there is an interest in selling it, after various back and fourth the person who contacted you just stops replying to your emails, why not just say " Hey sorry money is not right, I purchased something else or whatever " but to ignore someone after you contacted them is in poor taste

Is it in poor taste to PM a member to ask if they ever decide to sell a certain piece to keep you in mind? Generally, I don't think so. Though timing might play a part in it; if someone just purchased something that might not be taken so well compared to a piece that has been in their collection for a little bit. Personally, I am like commandax, I'd take it as a compliment and a possible good future home.

I'm thinking the rates for international shipping with the private carriers - Fedex and UPS - have gotten straight up insane. Been a few years since I had to ship a decent sized package abroad. But it wasn't even half the cost of the quotes I'm getting now. I've traded Fedex before and recall recently reading both their profits were down like 25% in the last quarter due to fuel costs. But hot damn, these quotes are outlandish. Shit ain't right.

I am planning my masters thesis for next year and hope to write about art and tourism/service management.
Does anyone have any book suggestions about management in a gallery? Or being employed in the art world? Anything that is particularly related to customer service management or the triangle interaction between artist-gallery-collector or producer-service provider-consumer?

Anything that is particularly related to customer service management or the triangle interaction between artist-gallery-collector or producer-service provider-consumer? I got this email today, and while it may be of no help as it's in London, I have a feeling it's something to do with Tina Zeigler from London Miles. She might be able to furnish you with the course notes? Just a thought.

Bought one of the best pieces I have ever seen and I am not sure how to explain to my husband.

being a husband myself I say just hang it up, 99 percent chance he will notice, my wife rearranged our sitting room on the first floor and the furniture on the roof which is the fourth floor and it took me two days and for her to point it out before I noticed either.

which one??? don't tease... Sorry, didn't mean to-I bought Brandi Milne's piece from the CHG 5 year anniversary show. Highbrow, I am afraid he will notice as he seems to have "you spent money" radar; he is Scottish after all He isn't into really art and especially not the art I like so where I am in love, he tolerates its existent.

sadly no as I am on your side of the fence with my wife, with my wife I normally prepare her by showing her the work and quoting a price about 25 percent higher, then I talk about the work for about a week ( all after I have purchased the work ) and finally I wait till she comes home in a great mood, while she is telling me about her amazing day I then tell her about my amazing day, I purchased said piece of art and got them to knock 25 percent off. This use to work or at least I thought it did until last week when she was king enough to point out that she was aware of this from the second time I did it, but let it go.
