Ok, I was thinking about this earlier today. Which artist that falls into any of the scene that most people here talk about do you think is the most technically skilled?
Even if you not a fan of the artists work, think "modern master". In the areas of color, handling of the material and mastery of perspective and /or anatomy.
I have a few names bouncing around.

Well I assume we are sticking with only the artists mentioned on here,in that case I would say Craola.

I think it is ok to mention artists that aren't on this forum, but you know that they should be mentioned here. Such as:
Sean Cheetham, David Jon Kassan and possibly Jeremy Lipking,

I was going to say Ron English as well. But I also think Michael Hussar belongs up there.
of course I feel like most people here know more artists than I do.

Some killer artists in this list. I agree with all of them, and here a few that haven't been mentioned.
Chris Mars Kris Kuski (especially his acrylic paintings) Kevin Llewellyn (his drawings are exquisite) Shawn Barber

It might not be apparent, but I think Shag takes a technical approach to his work. Good composition and clean lines. I wouldn't say he's a "master" but, worth mentioning as a graphics designer.

my first choice is ryden.
chris mars, robert williams, makoto kobayashi- and mr. g (japanese pinstripers) , and dalek is pretty cool considering he paints all those straight lines freestyle.....
here is a youtube on mr g. insane that he does this freehand:

I can't say because I haven't seen many of these artists' work up close and in the flesh, but Ryden's work looks extremely well-executed. As for painting from life, Hussar is pretty amazing...

I know this is a really old thread, but it's new to me, so I'm bringing it back! :-)
Based on the criteria "color, handling of the material and mastery of perspective and /or anatomy" my choices would have to be:
1. Case, 2. Natalia Fabia 3.Conor Harrington

Master in my mind is mutual to genius . With that in mind . . .
I think Simkins is talented but I feel his work is far too stylized in a cartoonish sense to be considered a master . He is great at what he does but I get the impression it comes a bit too quickly . I'd have to see some life drawings and that he can do more than just one thing to change my mind .
James Jean and Hussar I agree with . I'd also add Eric Fortune for technical ability and John Dyer Baizley for incredible line work .
Vania Zouravliov and Aaron Horkey are also stand outs for me in awe of the control they have over a pencil .
Walton Ford also is ridiculous .

I would have to add that I think Joe Sorren would be part of the conversation.

Robt. Williams is still the master. His older "Super cartoons" still blow anything away today IMHO, except for Schorr's Kong painting maybe. Your talking multiple layers of varnish and hand made paints here people. His new stuff is still very technical, just a lot more tame.
