damncoolpics.blogspot.com/2007/04/robert-banksy-street-graffiti-artist.htmlThis link takes you to: DAMNCOOLPICS.BLOGSPOT.COM____after you arrive, scroll to bottom of page in order to view all the pics. I heard the highest price for one of his works at auction was $161,119. ( if any member of this site can point out a higher price....please tell me ). NOTE: My favorite work on damncoolpics.blogspot.com by BANKSY is the two soldiers painting the blood-red PEACE sign (while holding guns). The bloody looking sign is also dripping heavily which gives it more power. Wow !! What a great work !! _____________________________________________________ Signed: Robert Singletary__Wednesday Sept. 29, 2010__2:22 P.M. (eastern standard time) USA

How great that be if it wasnt Banksy who did it, then when he came out and publicly said he didnt do it, people would think he was just saying it, and then the large amounts of speculation and back and fourth of weather it was him or not.

Yeah I was thinking this same thing too. Especially considering how in tune the Simpsons are to pop culture. Its one of the reasons I love the show on so many levels. It wouldn't surprise me if there was some writer that said, "let's do a Banksy themed opening because no one will ever know the difference whether he really did it or we came up with it.

Interesting Q & A with executive producer, Al Jean, about the Banksy project via the NYT. Q. How did you find Banksy to do this, and now that it’s done, how much trouble are you in? A. Well, I haven’t been fired yet, so that’s a good sign. I saw the film Banksy directed, “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” and I thought, oh, we should see if he would do a main title for the show, a couch gag. So I asked Bonnie Pietila, our casting director, if she could locate him, because she had previously located people like Thomas Pynchon. And she did it through the producers of that film. We didn’t have any agenda. We said, “We’d like to see if you would do a couch gag.” So he sent back boards for pretty much what you saw. Q. Were you concerned that what he sent you could get the show into hot water? A. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it for a little bit. Certainly, Fox has been very gracious about us biting the hand that feeds us, but I showed it to Matt Groening, and he said, no, we should go for it and try to do it pretty much as close as we can to his original intention. So we did. Like we always do, every show is submitted to broadcast standards, and they had a couple of [changes] which I agreed with, for taste. But 95 percent of it is just the way he wanted. Q. Can you say what got cut out? A. I’ll just say, it was even a little sadder. But I would have to say almost all of it stayed in. We were thrilled. It was funny, I watched “Mad Men” last night and I wondered if this was my Don Draper letter to The New York Times. I knew just how he felt. But it was great to have a secret. Q. One of the things Banksy is known for is disguising his identity. How can you be sure that you were dealing with the real him? A. The original boards that we got from him were in his style and were certainly by an extremely proficient artist. We were dealing with the person that represented him making the movie. I haven’t met him, I don’t even know what he looks like, except what the Internet suggests. And he’s taken credit for it now so I’m pretty sure it’s him. We went through the people that made the movie so I assume they would know how to get to the real him. Q. Even compared to how “The Simpsons” has mocked Fox in the past, this seemed to push things to a different level. Are you sure there’s no one higher up than you on the corporate ladder who’s displeased with this? A. I think that we should always be able to say the holes in our DVDs are poked by unhappy unicorns. Q. Has Banksy’s criticism made you reconsider any of the ways you do things at “The Simpsons” in terms of producing the show or its merchandise? A. I have to say, it’s very fanciful, far-fetched. None of the things he depicts are true. That statement should be self-evident, but I will emphatically state it. Q. A lot of the show’s animation is produced in South Korea, but not under those conditions. A. No, absolutely not. Q. And even that closing shot of the 20th Century Fox logo surrounded in barbed wire? A. Approved by them. Obviously, the animation to do this was pricey. I couldn’t have just snuck it by Fox. I’ll just say it’s a place where edgy comedy can really thrive, as long as it’s funny, which I think this was. None of it’s personal. This is what made “The Simpsons” what it is.

Another new Banksy in London, an escape door from Hell?, to coincide with the LAZ show. Arguably the most ambiguous and unidentifiable Banksy ever?

whoa!.. very nice.. all of them.. especially the Clash one.. I too love that piece. Taking the rocker out of context and juxtaposing him with an office chair instead of a guitar works on so many levels when you consider what the Clash and the punk movement were all about. Really great way to reinterpret themes like fighting the status quo, and what it means to be a "responsible adult."

A bunch of solid originals and editioned canvases making the rounds at all the auction houses this weekend and next. Looks like what has ended already today, with Banksy and almost all of the artists, are achieving very solid results, if not blowing past high estimates. Interesting to see some confidence slowly returning, even if short lived as I believe it will be once the Fed runs out of tricks and veil is removed. But I would do bad things for the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag (oil painting basis for Very Little Helps print) that sold at Sothbys today for $130k! Liked the unique stop sign piece at the Christies today too, as well as the Girl With Balloon diptych Dreweatts next weekend. Have always been partial to that image, and period from Banksy, and think the effect on two panels works so well.

Lazarides talks to Vanity Fair. Some of the interview deals with his relationship with Banksy. www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2010/10/banksys-ex-gallerist-talks-about-their-breakup-depictions-of-hell.htmlHow did you and Banksy hook up? I photographed him. And he kept phoning me, telling me where he put pieces so I could go and photograph them and then one day he needed a lift somewhere—he was going back to Bristol and he was going to get these screen prints he’d made and offered me a ten’er—and I was like ‘I’ll buy the fucking lot and sell them for 35 quid.’ So we went into business with me selling the screen prints. He kind of had an agent at the time, but I ended up selling far more than his agent did. But now you guys have broken up, so to speak. What happened? We spent about 10 years together, and I wanted to branch out. You have to grow up. Otherwise you just look like a fool. We haven’t really spoken to each other in a long time; to be honest, I have no idea where he is. And it gave me much more capacity to work with everyone else. It was an amazing ride and I wouldn’t be here without it, but I don’t necessarily miss it. It’s like when you’re in a relationship and people don’t define you as an individual; they define you as a couple. And it annoys him far more than it annoys me. [Laughs] A decade is long time, especially when you’re both as driven as we are.

An interesting story and some old pics from a trip Mr. B took down to Chiapas in 1999, apparently with an anarchist Bristol soccer team that was playing the Zapatista's squad. Pretty bizarre and awesome circumstances. Taken from Capturing Banksy. A canvas he produced to raise funds for the region.

blog.vandalog.com/2010/11/banksys-identity-is/Canimation, a series of short films that combine graffiti and animation and part of Encounters International Film Festival, claims to have CCTV footage of Banksy that conclusively shows his identity. The CCTV footage was apparently captured when Banksy painted something on a building where Aardman, an animation studio, is located.
