Sounds like its shaping up to be a great show. Only wish I could be there -- fortunately, I was lucky enough to pick up a little something. ;D

a great turnout last night. glad to see many red dots at the show especially many of the original pieces.. i didn't get any as my top 3 choices got sold when i arrived at the preview reception. i think the tender nob piece was my favorite one. at least i got a zine from the show which had a few nice photos of dc's pieces and jason's story behind the show. it was a well-balanced show - the "jar jar binks" attitude on the left side and dark side of darth vader on the right side. i think the walls feed compliment each other well...

I'm a fan of Davids work. But I'm also a big fan of giving credit to other artists if you bite there design. I was just wondering if anyone else even noticed that this design is exactly painted from Luca Ionescu's design. This design has already been used by ArtsProjekt on clothing designs, and the designer is another famous artist that is from Australia and has done work for such clients as MTV. Just thought I would give credit to the original creator of the work where it's due. Clearly a copy don't you think?

Not sure that "copy" is the correct characterization, but Choe's piece certainly does look like it may be based on Ionescu's piece.

Some posters were given out last night at the GR Beniale Closing Party. They were of the ablove image (from his Beijing show, I think?) but had "LA 4/10" on them... is this a sign? Nice... excited for this...

More details about photo referencing / derivative work: artchival.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generaldiscussion&action=display&thread=1980&page=1I wouldn't call it a copy either since colors, strokes, style and etc. are completely different.

there do seem to be quite a few similar 'lines' between the two pieces...

So it sounds from Choe's blog that this might be it from him for awhile: "this summer In april 2010 I will have my first solo art show in BEVERLY HILLS CALIFORNIA with Lazarides .I will take all my love all my hate all my pain all my rage, all my suffering and all my skills and experience ive collected over the years , and bring it to your doorstep, those who collect my stuff, know that the waitlist is over, it’s done, I burned the commission page, there’s no more comissions, those that wait to see if they should buy a painting or not, and then get annoyed when it’s sold out, here it is now , a solid 2 and half month early warning, this will be my last show in a long time, I have no plans or contracts for any other shows after this, I will go away for a long time after this, so I’m being nice and telling you all this garbage now, don’t come crying to me later because I wont be here. los angeles I’m coming home and when I come this time, I’m gonna come harder than I ever have before." davechoe.blogspot.com/

His work has always been very hit or miss for me. And while I still can't personally justify the price, there are some pieces in this show that definitely hit. Certainly a bunch of misses too. But there are a few very strong pieces that I'd enjoy on my walls. Should be a nice time in the 90210 on Thurs.

From that Hypebeast's interview, he's definitely got a porn graphic novel coming out soon or so! ;-)

Had an awesome time watching Dirty Hands tonight at the Sunset 5. David and Harry were there hanging out and signing posters. If you haven't seen it yet, make sure to see it before May 6th if you're in LA. Then it moves to SF for showings from May 21 – May 27.
