Some great works. Love the Johanson, Mcgee, McGinley.. You've got yourself some blue chip works by some important artists, but I'm sure you already know that. No Tauba?
My favorite collection, piece for piece, on this blog so far.
thanks for sharing

Ah, there is a Tauba on the way. It's been an epic story thanks to the volcanic ash cloud but it's finally at the framer and should be with me this week. I'll be sure to post a photo. And thanks for the encouraging comments.

i think i have been responsible for one of those negative comments on the bast head, so sorry if i caused any offence...!
thanks for sharing this distinguished collection with us though afroken. some real gems here from some of the most coveted and respected artists within the new contemporary scene. i'm sure there are great stories that accompany your aquisitions too. pieces like this are not so easy to come by, and it looks as though you are a very dedicated collector. the neckface and johanson pieces are exquisite, as is that great geometric mcgee cluster. that looks quite large by the way - what sort of size is that one?
interesting that you label this as a lowbrow forum.... personally i really dislike that term and thinks its derogatory to some of the artists that find it slapped upon them. yes of course 'lowbrow' is a large part of this board, but i think that your collection is a perfect fit for the kind of art that a lot of people on this board enjoy. welcome to the forum afro.

I'm not educated when it comes to low brow so maybe a lot of my collection won't be to everyone's taste. You're right, I'm not liking your collection... because I wish it was on MY Walls!!! All joking aside, thanks for stepping up and sharing with us your awesome collection. Your Magee, Supine, McGinley and Frost are very nice. Now go and shoot more of your collection for our amusement

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Svenman, I am the first person to hate pigeon holing art for the sake of convenience so you have highlighted just how uneducated I am about the wider scene. No offense meant to any artists or other collectors.
And there's no way I would be offended by someone disliking any of the art I collect. Reading it back I guess my first post came across as a bit defensive. I'm quite methodical in my collecting, normally concentrating on one artist at a time and biding my time until the right piece comes along rather than jumping in impulsively (which I've learnt not to do, although I used to). It means that I can take criticism constructively and with open arms. I'd rather it created some debate than none at all.
The McGee is pretty big but not huge. Overall it's about 50x40 inches.

My favourite collection on here. Wonderful examples form universally excellent artists with the neckface being my stand out piece but do remind who the piece above that is by again?
Thanks for sharing.

i can see that you are very careful and considerate with the pieces you own afro... nothing but quality choices all the way through here - like juggernut, i wish that the majority of these pieces were hanging on my walls! hope you don't think i was being critical of your comment at all, it's just that the term low brow bothers me quite a bit in many ways!

I have to agree Sven, not to clued up on the lowbrow scene but the name alone puts me off. It makes the art seem second class for some reason and from what I've seen it's far from it.

Chris Johanson, that's the fella.
I put the low-brow question to a few of the artists at the Art From the New World opening and they are were as dismissive of the term as you'd expect them to be given that it really is a pretty insulting label for a wide range of great art.

I get the message on the low brow tag, but out of interest, and at the risk of putting my foot in it again, where does pop surrealism sit as a term?
