i know that flipping is unavoidable. especially when there's a demand. but it still makes me sad when people purchase art and prints for the purpose of making profit. when i make a piece, its very pure and personal. i put in a substantial amount of my time and energy and love and effort. and for someone to take advantage of that, and attempt to make profit from it (in a sneaky sort of way), feels very strange to me.
yes. the art world involves business. business means money. and money can get shady at times. but i would still like to believe that there is some sense of respect and understanding between the artist and galleries and buyers.
im not demanding my share/cut. i just wish there wasnt this side business going on involving my work. the idea of my pieces circulating without my knowledge makes me sad. (oh~ my poor little girls...)
honestly, i feel a bit jaded. it makes me feel like i really need to be cautious with who i get involved with.
oh~ how money does such strange little things to people~~.
poor audrey. from her "other" blog baibai-matane.livejournal.com/sorry to start off the thread of one of my favorite artists on a sour note. but at least it can only get better after this post

hmmm...i wonder what happened to make audrey so upset! i feel like most people buy audrey's work because they really love it, but they decide to sell later when they realize how much of a profit they can make on it. although i adore the pieces of hers i own, the amount of money i could get for them has made me stop and think about selling a few times. i still don't think i could bring myself to that though. her market is crazy right now. she'll probably have to raise her prices a lot more to prevent flipping.

I can't sympathize with that statement until she:
1. goes punk and stops doing gallery shows 2. then does a commission for me well below her current prices

this is a picture audrey took of some paintings she planned for the copronason show that just passed noticed this a while back... just thought it was interesting Audrey told me this never made it to the show because she just wasn't feeling it anymore... "this happens pretty often lately. where i will start and spend hours on the drawing, and then later realize i have no desire to paint it."

Interesting. At least it shows that she has some artistic principles. She won't put out work that she doesn't feel is adequate. Of course I think I can say that most fans would have loved that piece if she had decided to sell/finish it.

The page will not load for anyone not using firefox I just sadly discovered.... see here: i-seldom-do.livejournal.com/120204.html?view=3726476#t3726476I wrote in response as you will see on the page that: "I think it is wonderful that it sold out so fast but I also think it was exceedingly misleading and unfair for Audrey to not in some way notify her fans who got up at 9am on a saturday and sat like dolts refreshing a page for a piece of art/print they have been dreaming about and waiting for. Unfortunately I feel this will only encourage and create a greater market for "flippers" as I was very anxious to get this print and will have to pay more now for it. I am extremely disappointed by this and though I am thrilled the print sold out in under a minute, I think the firefox issue should have been mentioned and if we care enough to attend every show, try to save to buy her art, wake up at 9am to try and buy a print -- then I think she should have the courtesy to notify us of this beforehand. I'll assume it was an oversight."

i definitely think this was an oversight. it's the first time she used a separate page with a purchase link. i'm sure this will be fixed for the next print she releases.

question is did she know ahead of time? if she did, she probably should have emailed everyone about it. i would assume she didn't...
i was feeling bad cuz i forgot about the release, i thought i was noon. lol, but lucky for me is that i would have used IE since i'm at work. feel bad for the people who missed out though. i was wondering why there were so many people up so early on the forum lol.

It had to be an oversight. Why would anyone set it up to not accept probably the most widely used web browser out there?

Its sad for the people who couldnt get it, but I'm happy I got it. I had so many issues about my Mizuame print (damaged, had to tear it up and I havent got the replacement yet...) I really think its just karma that I got lucky and scored that one.
Maybe someday I'll get funds for an original, but while that, its my 4th Kawasaki print, and I love it. Hopefully I can get If only you were here.

"To those who missed out on the 'Lacey' print opportunity,
we apologize. it was an honest mistake, and we had no idea the page wasnt showing up in other browsers.
i'm sorry to those of you who are upset (and those who aren't!) but please know it was not on purpose.
each time we conduct these print sales we've had problems, and we've taken measures to fix those problems the next time around.
next time we will make sure that the page will be visible in all browsers.. so, this wont happen again. we'd eventually like to have some sort of "shopping cart" so that things are more clear!
Thank you for your patience and understanding."
Poor Audrey, no matter what you do, some people will not be happy. If I could invent a way to release prints without crashing or jamming a website, I would be a rich man. If I was an artist, I would just man up and pay the ebay fees and release it thru an ebay store. No crashing or overselling ever.
