If I remember right, the seller used to own an art gallery and owns 9 more Keyes pieces. How do you get hold of nine pieces? I don't suppose he bought them all on the secondary market. If he used his position as a gallery owner to purchase these pieces purely as an investment, this seems just plain wrong to me. (This is just a speculation, so I am sorry for any false accusations on my part.) I don't know, I am just sick of shady galleries and rather prefer to buy from artists directly instead of feeding greedy galleries (there are many good galleries out there, I know I also sometimes wish galleries would handle sales based partly on artists' own waiting lists. I know it's totally naive, so go on and bash me too Of course more art in the hands of fans could mean less art available on the secondary market which is always an important factor in determing an artist's value. And of course I know that also collectors will resell if the $ is right.

no one should bash that opinion, it is yours and valid to a large degree. While I wouldn't necessarily knock someone for selling, there are definitely ways of going about it which keep in mind the artists and the markets best interest. Ebay is definitely not that method. Poor form, especially if they have 9 paintings and used there reputation to buy the work. I will say, they wouldnt have gotten 20k privately, 15 maybe, but I think even that would be a stretch. I say that based on a long search I just did for the right Keyes painting.
To comment on the post directly above mine.
That is definitely a collector mentality. It's done from the bottom all the way up to artists like hirst and rothko. I see nothing wrong with it and, to be honest, it is how I built my collection and refined my taste. As a good friend always like to hammer into my head, there is a lot to be said for connoisseurship. It is an art in and of itself.

Not sure if ebay was poor form, the seller managed to get the market rate for the painting and opened bidding to more buyers/fans. The listing said they bought from the original buyer, so I would assume they had to pay secondary prices for the painting.

Would be interesting to know! It's why I dislike eBay so much, there are so many ifs, buts and ways to misrepresent.
On a happier note, I cant wait for the new series of paintings. Josh had alluded to painting salmon on his facebook, so I would say it is a pretty good bet we will get some more water based pieces.

Looks like they have increased the edition size for Scorch I to 350. Price didn't change though, should help deter some of the print flippers, and make a lot of fans happy. As they are supporting a good cause and getting a nice print of the deal. I still can't imagine the insane amount of work it is to print, hand tear (deckle), sign and number each piece. And then sell each piece, and then pack and ship all the works that are sold. All for no-profit, so a cause they support can benefit. I wonder what is more work, doing a painting like Sower's or preparing and selling and shipping 350 prints. great news. stoked to hang this baby.

Makes me wonder if there is water under the road, and if this is his epic sized work (40x120) for the show? This is only a portion of the artwork, right?

This is only a portion of the artwork, right? Gotta think so murdock. I'm really hoping that Orca is down there in full!!!! ;D Can't wait to see everything. Wish I could be in NYC that weekend but not to be.

Thanks for the info saL... Just added "Dark Waters" to my calendar since it is the only one in So Cal... Man, I really wish I could make it to NY for the solo show, his work is amazing.
By the way saL, could you post the link for Josh's blog? I didn't see it listed on his web site.
