Hi Boppieboy,
To be honest, I don't understand the hype either. Eight years ago when I was showing in coffee shops, only a few pieces would sell. I am very thankful that folks like and respond to the work, but know it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Hope you have a great holiday Boppie.
Cheers, Josh

You don´t have to be impressed, that´s the beauty of art.
But while we´re at it, what doesn´t impress you?

There's usually not to much value to this discussion by saying you are not impressed. If you could put that to words, at least it would be a respected opinion vs. a comment to start a flame war. agreed...

Well I'm impressed. They're beautifully constructed cautionary tales about consequence. They show what happens when an intelligent animal has free rein as the top predator and then uses that selfsame intelligence to devise technologies with which to further exploit their environment.
These paintings are ecological poems that engage the viewer showing, as they do, our subsequent alienation from the natural world. They manage to avoid being over sentimental too, which is quite a feat when one is painting animals as subject matter.
It takes balls too, of course, to pursue the craft of painting as artfully as Josh does when the 'official' art world would have us believe that painting is effectively dead.

From 2007 but I don't remember seeing it before. Consignment or maybe something Josh had hanging around?

From 2007 but I don't remember seeing it before. Consignment or maybe something Josh had hanging around? it was exhibited in a group show at hang art gallery a few years back. i remember contemplating buying it. can't remember the original price now! always liked this piece though, and it's a great size.

I just heard about this through the grapevine, glad the blue ribbon found a home. I enjoyed working on that painting, it was in a group show in 2007 at the Hang Gallery in San Francisco, as Sven mentioned. The original retail price was $900.00. I would like to work on this scale of panel again.
