I like his work. I wonder where it will go in time. He can keep interchanging subject matter in this framework and still kick ass, but I'd love to see what would happen if he started thinking more sculpturally or in terms of installation. Actually, I would LOVE to see one of his landscapes rotating in 3D space with a little world of SIMS style people/deer/campfires going about... put that shit on loop in little windows we could look through, or project it LARGE. Actually, those would be awesome as sculptures too. Have you seen the installs and sculptures he has done already? The one you described sounds interesting...

actually, no I havent seen any of his sculpture / installations. Shit, I should. Perhaps he isnt making "tanks" b/c he wants to avoid any Hirst references. Hmm.... The landscape sculpture would kick ass though.

You guys seen this new one by Josh, titled 'Frenzy'? I am liking this whole fire thing, plus the smoke breaks up the white space nicely. Most of his previous works don't have anything breaking to the edges of the canvas, so the image is usually cocooned by white space (which I really like). But this is a nice change.

I like this one much more than the shark scorched piece. The deer and grass are awesome.

The lighting in Scorch II is just incredible. The sun shinning off the front of the deer's fur, the ploom of smoke shading out the patch of grass underneath it, and even the front facade of the fragmented landscape with the soil, rocks, and root systems being a darker color than both sides. Quite impressive! But still pales in comparison to Scorch I, by a good bit. Deer vs. Shark...shark wins every single time in my book.

The movement in this piece is very nice. I haven't seen either piece in person but I prefer the deer for some reason... but I would take either one in a heartbeat. damn, world traveler now? me and stephenw are thinking about going. got the bug! get it booked guys Well, now we have another reason to go I'll let you know. actually, no I havent seen any of his sculpture / installations. Shit, I should. Perhaps he isnt making "tanks" b/c he wants to avoid any Hirst references. Hmm.... The landscape sculpture would kick ass though. Hm... Yah, scroll back in this thread and you will see some install pics, also on his website I believe. The one you are imagining of his older cityscape "interlock" pieces I have never seen an installation like that. And yes, those landscape aquariums are rad.

lol......"Bambi on Fuego" is a good name. Is the name of this piece "Frenzy" or "Scorch II"......i think there was an earlier post that said "Frenzy", but I am unsure if that is the actual name. I guess the piece was briefly on Josh's site and then taken down ala "Rise Above".

Wow....I am nearly speechless! The initial effect at first glance from this piece is amazing. These deer mean business. Scorch I had the same effect, which is from the fire, but conceptually it doesn't push the boundaries like some other great Keyes pieces. This piece is just spot on conceptually. I am guessing this is 30x40. I have wondered exactly how big Josh's work can actually get and still have the desired effect, but these last two larger pieces make me believe the bigger the better. They leave me wanting more. I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve and ready to drop in his future repertoire. Makes me fiend to want to see more. If I see one more amazing leaked image, ala Rise Above and Scorch II, I may be booking my flight to Denver too!!

What the hell is wrong with the deer in the back? Something looks terribly wrong with it. Recently suffered a stroke, perhaps?

The message in this piece is far from subtle. Initially, this piece had a WOW effect on me, and I also think it is great conceptually, but i must admit.......the more I look at this image, the less I like it. I don't know what it is.....i think the more I look at the amount of fire and the deformed deer, something doesn't work for me.....maybe I am just being overly critical.
Any thoughts?

You know, I wonder if the painting would've been even better if that car wasn't there. The image would've been simpler, and probably more powerful (and a tad more subtle?)... I still really enjoy this piece.
