I am not yet on board with his new style.. but, I have to admit, this one does catch my eye..
It is strange not to have the white space around the subject matter as usual.. I don't mind the hexagon canvas although I have seen other's comment on this in a negative light.. I think the composition and detail of this piece is in line with the usually quality and perspective one expects from Josh.. so, I give this two thumbs up and remain interested to see the direction of this show and understand how this fits into the larger picture of a body of work concept.

Josh Keyes just shared this WIP image of his piece for the Otherworld group show at the "new" Roq La Rue Gallery, and I must say I'm very excited about this: Im loving the composition on this one, plus the elements in it (beaten up car, street sign, anchor), are working pretty much PERFECT with me..

Here is the newest Josh Keyes painting, entitled "The Chase". It's at Roq La Rue Gallery for our "Otherworld" show opening 6/6/13.

Looks fantastic. I am wondering if it is the entire piece - or just a portion of a larger piece. Either way; it looks great to me.

Explanation on the painting “The Chase” September 5th, near Vancouver, WA "The reading on the Geiger counter was growing much stronger, the source had to be close by. A yellow flash shot past my diving helmet. Startled and off balance, I lost my footing and tripped over an old tricycle and fell in slow motion to my knees, looking up, I saw what threw me it was a bright yellow rockfish. Feeling a little foolish, I started to stand up and froze instantly with fear. An enormous tiger swam past me, undulating orange and black stripes, jaws open and claws extended, reaching out for the rockfish. I kept still hiding behind a mailbox and in amazement watched the sea tiger pursue the speeding yellow streak. Luckily the tiger took no notice of me, perhaps the diving suit did not look terribly appetizing and both fish and tiger faded away into the cold blue. I hoisted myself up with the aid of the mailbox and regained my footing. Though shaken and out of breath, I continued to press on toward the source of the radiation."
Looks like the above image is the complete painting too.

i like how josh is writing up these narratives for the new work. He did the same for the pieces in Wider than a postcard and he told me that this would be something that he includes with the work from now on.

Agreed Sven. And I like the direction of this new piece. It delivers that classic Keyes goodness but manages to be progressive. Best of both worlds.
