Looks like their on lot 49. Kinda funny to listen to the live audio. I would SO love to go after this, but I'd need to liquidate an older piece first...something which I would love to do sooner than later. But it's a little late now. I believe Sven is going after it anyhow, so I would never compete with a fellow collector in something like this.

Good buy - that piece was one of the few highlights of a dismal auction. I think you benefitted from the absurd amount of garbage pieces bringing the overall bidding down.

In case folks still aren't checking Arrested Motion on a daily basis, there are a couple shots of a massive new piece for the Museum show posted. arrestedmotion.com/2008/11/studio-visit-jeff-soto-part-i/Can't say I'm in love with the piece. But it is definitely noteworthy for it's massive scale, and I sure would love to see it in person....which I should hopefully get to do when I visit the family in California for Christmas! btw. Interesting this thread was moved from the "lowbrow" section. I couldn't find it at first.

I like this little guy from the "Know" show.

Yeah, I quite like the Earth and Moon dyptich he did for the KNOW show as well. I never bother to inquire about price, as I didn't like it enough to buy. But I'm still definitely in the market for a Soto 2.0 piece...or is this 3.0 now, as one could argue his Supernova Levine show was a definite push forward and could be deemed 2.0 and then this Storm Clouds - Present era is even more of an evolution. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the RAM show. And it's looking like I might be changing my flight back out to LA to be able to hit the opening on 12/13. Nothing would be finer that checking that out, with all the love and support I've shed unto Jeff over the years. Hopefully, I can make it happen. Oddly enough, I've still got my sights set on that little evergreen tree with shovel in one hand and pick-ax(?) in other, with the rainbow over head. That little guy is cute...in the most badass, "look out below" way possible. Ideally, something more rendered will catch my eye, as I still have yet to add a new school Soto to the collection. But I'm all about that little piece right now.

Actually, there is something so different and appealing to this piece too. I've always loved Jeff's "fur" technique. And the fact that this piece is set in a night landscape is just so bold. Plus, anything with antlers is cool and it's got the tradmarked paint roller in play. Good stuff!

Woah. Was that Soto painting displayed as part of the Scion Show as well? It looks amazing! It's got the Storm Cloud era look to it, with some rainbow action which has actually grown on me over time as it breaks up the otherwise cold color palettes of all the pieces from that show and period. Yet it has some of his newest flair integrated as well. I love Soto pieces that incorporate trees into them so much too, and nothing really "did" it for me at the RAM show probably cause most of them were just too large and was unsure about the pervasive fur applications. Antarctica ruled though!! I understand his reasoning for the large works, however, as he needed to fill an extremely large space. I wonder if this sold down in Miami? Although, it looks approximately 24x36 so it'd be out of my price range for the new Soto I'm in the market for. I suppose I'll just have to wait to add that new piece to the collection. All in due time....all in due time....

Yah, I believe it's from the Scion show. Not sure it sold. Did a little interview of Jeff by the way. AM: Were you trying to get a message across or working on a theme for this body of work? JS: I always try to stick to one theme when I start out and by the end I’m all over the place. The themes I tend to gravitate towards- politics, environmental issues, war, etc. are all represented here. But I’m also telling some stories this time. There’s stories of the Soto boys, growing up in Riverside and some ephemera from our childhood. The title Turning In Circles relates to our habit of repeating the same mistakes as our ancestors, living the same lifecycle (birth, life, procreate, die), and it also alludes to the year it took me to work on this show. One turn around the sun. Read the rest here.

For those interested I am doing a slideshow/talk/book signing at the RAM tomorrow night. Sorry for the short notice. Info below... thanks!! Great presentation last night. Those that braved the rain were rewarded. Jeff stayed until each book was signed to the dismay of the museum staff. An hour after the scheduled closing time Jeff was still in good spirits and gave the last 10 people in line a special gift, a copy of "brain decay" signed and numbered out of 500. "Brain Decay" is a printed handout of random sketches and pictures. Loved to hear bout the origin of Subtle Fish.
