Truly amazing. Look forward to my copies too.
Asked in the Miami Basel thread, but does anyone know what Standard sold the Statics at the main fair?

got my pop-up books and they are magic (& selling, as printed matter bumped the price to $550).
in article on the pop-up book release (http://www.galleristny.com/2011/12/tauba-auerbach-makes-a-pop-up-book-1207201/), Tauba notes with respect to the new weave paintings that "'I feel like the best ones are still ahead of me,' she said, 'but my objective is to articulate something with only structure and no pigment and no light or shadow.' She paused. 'Maybe everything is connected though.'"

I noticed that this book is sold out, do you guys think the price was to expensive? well, value in art is of course subjective but considering that it sold out I suppose it was at market value.

1. printed matter still has 2,3 (& it is great): www.printedmatter.org/catalogue/moreinfo.cfm?title_id=90374(sold out link is to same book before price bumps) *i think they're worth >$1000 2. Tauba updated her website, including recent work: taubaauerbach.com/works.php3. Lindemann jumps on the Tauba bandwagon (http://www.galleristny.com/2011/12/the-best-exhibitions-of-2011/), and my guess is he got something from the show 4. Crazy auction efforts for her ny minute poster (http://www.artnet.com/auctions/Pages/Lots/60644.aspx?lotId=60644&page=1) 5. & a fold screen print (http://www.artnet.com/auctions/Pages/Lots/60907.aspx?lotId=60907&page=1)

How is that a reasonable price? Because one person was mad enough to pay $3,750? You can pick one of these up for a third of that.

Yeah i couldn't work it out as there was a price with buyers premium, but it looks like may well of gone unsold.
I had a quick look to see if there are any other for sale at a third of the price the only one I can find is on eBay at $4k.

Tauba Auerbach Solo show at the NY MOMA next year. about to get even more nuts. wow. well deserved imo. i guess she'll at least be 30, maybe 31, when the show opens next year. will there have been many artists younger to get a moma solo?

In 1970 Frank Stella was the youngest artist, to be given a retrospective at MOMA. He was 34. Beyond that year, I don't know. According to a quick Google search, his first appearance at MOMA was in 1959 when he was 23 (that was a group show, entitled, 'Sixteen Americans'.)

ok, dug up the same info via google too. talk about following in the godfather's footsteps. minimalism/abstract expressionism coming full circle with the modernization/maturation of opart. just wondered if anyone knew outright who held the crown. i suppose she could prove to be the youngest solo/retro to date. and thanks to my poor math skills, she'll actually be 31, if not 32. even if she's not the youngest, it really is amazing. hell, she was just in the whitney biennial not even two years ago. prior to that she was in a group show at ps1 moma and won the sfmoma award the year prior. pretty interesting to compare stella's 7 year period to auerbach's 2-3 power march. regardless of how insanely quick it's been, i think it was hard to deny it didn't have it's merits and this further cements it all.

I've got to agree with where your thoughts are treading, lowpro. I thought it to be rather interesting...the Stella / Taubach connections in theme and expansion, on a number of levels. I thought at first I had smoked a touch too much to be sane but, you've confirmed it for me, that at least I've come to a similar deduction.

She probably not only proves to be the youngest solo/retro artist to date but, almost certainly the youngest, woman. Given MOMA's heavily male dominated permanent collection (at least according to the same Google search that's an earthquake of an endorsement and simply huge.

do we know if this will be a retrospective show? or just a solo show? there's a pretty big difference.

We don't know. Agreed, significant difference. Part of me believes she could actually have a retrospective show, given her mastery of so many diverse mediums and her hard driven propensities.

i think it would be silly for her to have a retrospective show. and i seriously doubt she would want one. she's too busy looking forward. at least, i hope she's only looking forward.

do we know if this will be a retrospective show? or just a solo show? there's a pretty big difference. for sure. i suppose i was unaware of an institution like moma hosting full on new bodies of work. as much as i'd agree about preferring her to to focus on new work, and in spite of my own highlighting about it only being a few years from when she genuinely broke out, she has more than enough classic work, along with all of these new series - embossment, corrogation, the "books" - that most haven't even seen, that could easily warrant and fill out a retro. i mean, i'd love to see all her work under one roof. and many of her contemporaries and deitch school artists have recently had or will be having museum retros too. it'll most likely be a combination of new and old work. but this is all speculative anyhow, as google won't give me any answers. very impressive any which way you slice it.
