No one understands her incredible success. The main mistery of the art of today. Of all artists to pick on, I think Tauba's a poor choice. The only mystery to me is why her shows 6-8 years ago weren't always sell out. The work that sold for 1.2 million pounds, the original retail price on that back in 2008-10 ... $42,000 - the market is kind of like Vegas for the rich & more cultured. Tauba Auerbach "Untitled (Fold)" 2010 Acrylic paint on canvas / wooden stretcher 203.2 x 152.4 cm Unique PRICE: USD 42,000.00 (without crating and transport) Odd that this work was bought by a dealer, who currently has a show of Tauba's folds up at his gallery. So he might have bought it on behalf of a client or else bought this to drive up prices on the work he's already trying to sell or going to try and flip this one too!? news.artnet.com/market/young-artists-all-the-rage-at-phillips-sale-126252?utm_campaign=artnetnews&utm_source=101614daily&utm_medium=email

The only mystery to me is why her shows 6-8 years ago weren't always sell out. agreed. for me, Tauba's folds are the most interesting and engaging abstracts since Richter's squeegeed abstracts (which remain the best abstract works for me). by far - nothing else out there comes close. if you haven't examined them in person, they are magic. i don't see this as driving up prices - this recent sale was of a much larger fold (80x60) than the one that sold for $1.8m in may (60x45) and only achieved a marginally better result (+$30k) - but rather maintaining a price floor - kind of like the Nahmads (e.g., "They protect the prices of the artists they own, for instance, by bidding on their works at auction. "It's called defending your inventory," said Helly Nahmad in a 2007 Forbes interview" ( source))

I wasn't really referring to the market as a whole but specifically Inigo Philbrick's inventory and what he's trying to achieve by buying this. I'd be pretty wary of these secondary market dealers.

Constructive Interference: Tauba Auerbach and Mark Fox September 9, 2015 – March 21, 2016 In appreciation of the Anderson family’s commitment to mid-career contemporary artists and in celebration of the fall 2015 opening of the McMurtry Building for the Department of Art & Art History, the Anderson Collection will present a focused exhibition in the Wisch Family Gallery of works by Tauba Auerbach and Mark Fox. Both graduates of Stanford University, these artists explore ideas of process, material manipulation and chance. Auerbach received her BA in Visual Studies in 2003, and Fox received his MFA in 1988. The exhibition will be comprised of drawings, prints, paintings and sculpture. These works, on loan from the Anderson family, will reflect a variety of working methods employed by Auerbach and Fox. anderson.stanford.edu/exhibitions-programs/upcoming-exhibitions/
