Ian Francis is one of my favorite artists today! I admire his attention to detail and his use of abstract imagery to create a comtemporary dream state with a modern day twist. His images can bring different interpretations depending on the viewer... the kicker is when you read the title of the piece. Ian's titles sort of ties a lot of things together. (I would recommend absorbing the image first, then read the title!) He's very proficient at using mixed media on canvas: acrylic paint, acrylic ink, pen, charcoal, photo transfer and collaged textures. This thread is in part dedicated to two board members who also shares my facination with Ian's work: Solar77 and Comiconart. Here's the pics I took when I stopped by Kinsey Des Forges on the last day of the show... Here's the one from the Laz NYC "outsiders" show called: A Girl Watches as Her Lover's Plane Leaves the Airport (This Scene Ends Badly)

I am a huge fan of Ian Francis as well. I love his work, the colors, shapes and figurative element to his work is perfect.

Yeah i love Ian's work too... the one person i'd love to own an original by. I'll have to make do with the couple of prints i've got for now (which isn't a bad thing btw!), i posted pics over on the your artwork board.
For the price his prints are selling for atm i'm always tempted to pick a couple more up, but i've got no room for em! Have to be a good boy! ;D

As juggernut mentioned, Ian is my favorite artist. Here's one of my 2 originals (the other is from his recent show and hasn't arrived yet): Thanks for starting this thread. Ian is a great talent and it's nice to see his work discussed outside of the whole Banksy/street art scene, to which he really doesn't belong.

^ agreed on all counts...
-His prints are very nice to own and are suprisingly underpriced (thank god not flipped as much as other artists)
-Ian's art has transcended Street art and into another category. Solar's other piece from Ian's most recent Kinsey/Des Forges show is one of my favorites, which is why I posted it above. (hint hint)

Funny, that's the best pic I've seen of my piece so far. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Thanks for starting this thread! I have been meaning to start a thread for Ian for weeks now, just haven't gotten around to it. It's so much easier to just respond to someone else's thread. I cannot get enough of Ian's work. I am just totally captivated by it. I love love LOVE the third one you posted (Girl Looks into a Pool to Try and See her Future) (or something like that). Wish I could have seen the whole show in person to see which pieces stand out the most. It is one thing to see pictures, but totally a different story to see them in person. So did you have a favorite?!? My other fave is "A Monster Jumps out of the Lake! No, It's Just The Fourth of July", but the lighting in that pic makes it look washed out a bit...?

...and I agree, the Cheerleader piece looks SICK! Not one of my favorites at first viewing the preview online, but that picture paints it in a better light (SORRY! Couldn't avoid it! :-)
Fantastic score, Brett. ;-)

Yeah, I ended up with one of my top 3 choices so I'm extremely happy (my list was An Ingenue, Swimming Pool and Cheerleader in no particular order). These pics are cool because you can see a bit more texture in the canvases than you could in the preview (which were crisp but a bit low res).

Its the lighting, there wasn't enough light to cover tha ginormous piece... so I had to use flash... which is washed out. It looks great in person. (monster 4th july)

Yeah, saw those auction results last night. The Porn Girl piece was really nice. A smaller, earlier example, but I liked that one quite a bit. It actually did fairly well in the auction...ended up being about $8800 all told with buyer's premium and shipping to the US (so I guess closer to $8500 if you are in the UK and could have just picked it up). Slightly larger pieces were priced at $7500 at the recent KDF show. I would have happily gone as high as $10k for that one if I wasn't so tapped from my recent purchases. Still need to sell something to cover my recent purchases (hence the two Audreys currently on eBay). But I digress...
The blue piece was much more affordable, but I would say that it's arguably Ian's least desirable piece. It is an older, smaller example...and he later recreated a larger, tighter version of this piece. The Dreweatts piece was in a group show in Australia, and the 2nd (better) version was in his first solo at KDF, so not exactly a "unique" example. A very affordable option, though, if you are okay with that.

I actually do quite like the blue piece, though far from my favourite... you're quite right though it is one of his smaller pieces, which would probably help keep the price down!
Interesting bit of background though i didn't realise it was one of two produced!

I'm selling one of my prints, Paris Hilton for cost. I was lucky enought to get two. It has had some professional restoration done on it, minor area 2-3", to cover a spill. I've shown the print to many people and they can't even find the restoration. If anyone's interested it's your gain.
Personally, it's my opinion that Francis is incredibly under-rated. I think why people really respond to his work is that it's so apparent that he's one of the most talented and technically proficient artists out there right now. You just have to look at the style and the layering to know that he understands paint. Subtle and cool subject matter too. Absolutely, totally, under-rated.

We really should not be posting sales in artists threads, there is a B/S/T section for a reason. I'll let this slide this time because you commented on the artist. I really need to see Ian's stuff in person. Must be amazing.

Yes I share your passion for Ians work. The pieces in the Outsiders were really good. I have the one below on my wall, its pretty big and very hard to get a decent picture of it due to reflection. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't stop and look at the painting.

Wow! Just amazing!! Congrats!
I think he's just moved to #1 on my hit list. Anyone with any leads? Where should I start? I'm a definite Francis newb. But I do know that I must get something of his up on my walls. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
