Why would it matter if Richard Prince bought something? It's meaningless. His art has absolutely nothing to do with what he spends his money on. All of this dialogue is just testament to how strong hype and gossip can be..... And that is for either side of the argument. Lucien has a long way to go. If he lives an average life span he has a good 50 years more to keep producing art. It might make sense for him to chill with the over the top gimmicks, historical references, cross medium works, etc and stay out of the way, and find himself. From what he has put out thus far he is obviously very confused. Is he a painter, photographer, sculpturist, mixed media artist, conceptual artist or just a flash in the pan kid being led down the wrong path early in the game. I guess if we knew the answer we wouldn't have anything fun to discuss ; )

my thoughts exactly. the more I see about Team Lucien the more I think the real art in all this is making junk and getting money for it. Its like an inside joke or something.

Funny enough question, but is that actual pie/food product? Just interesting from a conservation viewpoint.

I have to admit, I find a pun using a 'Brandt' brand cash counter, referencing Peter Brant and his work developing, and profiting from, the Warhol auction market, to be humorous.

If this guy gets "big" anytime soon based on his output to date I will lose all faith in the art world.

I think the whole Forbes 30 under 30 thing can be taken with a grain of salt. It's definitely a cool little group to be included in, but the whole list is made from 3 judges. Hardly something to bet the farm on or collect for that specific reason.

Hardly something to bet the farm on or collect for that specific reason. True. But Dietch seems to be the main one if the 3 speaking for the arts side of things in that list. Regardless of the recent belly aching by people about his role at MOCA he still seems to be held in high regard by many artists and collectors. Not to mention the fact that he has a lead role in a top museum in a major art market.

Deitch is definitely highly influential, especially with the younger fashionable crowd. I was more saying that this alone is not a sure fire shot that Lucien will be great. I'm sure we can find a laundry list of artists who were highly touted then hot and now nowhere to be found. Obviously only time will tell, but I stick by my opinion that he needs to figure out what sort of artist he is first.

he's the sort of artist that makes art that looks easy to make (and is) and people seem to eat it up. he's been tapped on the shoulder. lord only knows why.
good for him.
