My collection has had its ups and downs but its starting to take on a more compact and focused route which i am happy about. Anyway after enjoying so many peoples pictures here i thought i would share come of mine.
just picked up this piece today by Catherine Martin who collaborated with the Huichol tribe in mexico to make These skulls, they are made of resin and coated with a layer of beeswax and are hand-beaded by the private tribe which lives in the Sierra Madre mountains. Mine was chosen to be shot by the new york times
You and half a dozen other people on this forum it would seem Neil. We all turned it down at prices ranging from $5k to $15k depending on how lucky the gallerist was feeling that day. I got flamed for saying this before but the truth is that that's not a very good Auerbach and there's plenty of people, it seems, who agreed with that when being offered it at market price before the hype went berserk. The fact that it sold for $60,000, or whatever it was, at auction seems to have somehow made it 'sexy' and part of the short lived but identifiable history of her rise to stardom, which will kind of make it iconic. But it's a shit painting. Sorry.
