Next month will see the release of the latest compendium of Chris Berens' work, a massive volume entitled Mapping Infinity. Once again, I had the honor and pleasure of collaborating with Chris on the writing of the book, which details the past four years of his work. The limited edition of 800 will be released on September 10th at Jaski Gallery in Amsterdam, with 50 special editions embellished with an original drawing. Also on view at the opening will be Chris' most recent painting, the astonishing magnum opus which gives the book its name.

This is a must have. I need to pick up 2239 as well, assuming it's still available.

I remember seing them @ Jaski before, and thinking they are some printed out colage work. Interesting. well, I remember looking at them and being positive the images were manipulated in photoshop, than printed out, and than glued as a collage (I guess because if all the blurness and layers).. but seeing him explain his technique, it seems I wasn't that far (the only thing is that hes not using the computer but does everything manually): (sorry if this video was already posted here)

There were some close up shots posted from the last show, anyone remember where? I've had a quick search with no avail.

Hi paintings are not cheap and rightfully so considering the work involved. Be prepared to pay major dollars to own one of his pieces.

250 euros seems pretty insane for a book unless that's the one with a sketch...

250 euros seems pretty insane for a book unless that's the one with a sketch... 46cm x 33cm and 176 pages it's about the same size of the reissued subway art book (i just checked) I was hoping it was going to be bigger, but still might have to get one. What I'm really hoping for is a brief collapse of the euro, just long enough to be able to afford an original.

250 euros seems pretty insane for a book unless that's the one with a sketch... ridiculous price. don't see how that could be justified. or am i missing something here? this is just a book right?

Well, I don't know that I'd buy most art books for €250, but this is a really large (14.5"x18") meticulously produced limited edition of 800 copies. It will indubitably be worth well more than its purchase price one day, so you could consider it an investment.
For comparison, the limited edition of Ryden's upcoming monograph from Taschen will start at €750.

I am probably not as shocked as anyone else as I am used to Mark Ryden's prices but his books are usually not only limited but also clothbound, numbered and signed and come with a limited print or other nice stuff. For "only" a book, even limited, 250 € still seem a bit much to me. For comparison, the limited edition of Ryden's upcoming monograph from Taschen will start at €750. Do you have any more info on that, Amanda? I could not find any at all.

While you won't hear me arguing against a 250 price being extremely high, I think depending on the quality if will be worth it. I mean, I wouldn't hesitate to spend that amount on a single print of his work and in this case i'm getting 4 shows worth of images. Not sure if that justifies the price, but since he doesn't seem to be eager to release prints, I can't afford his originals, and I pretty much adore every piece he's done in the last few shows it's a must purchase for me.
