Hype, hype, hype.
I just don't get it. Most of his art is not very well thought out or well executed, IMO. What is he doing that is really new? I can't think of much.

The more I think about Falls' fade pieces, the more I like them. They make me think differently not only about what a photograph can be, but also what the entire process of photography can be reduced down to (medium, light, subject). I also like how they capture time and nature, almost like having a snapshot that encompasses a full-length, time lapse video of some point on Earth. The way he seems to collapse elements of abstraction and minimalism into a single work also intrigue me, but I need better background knowledge in this area to say much more.

Loving both of these. Didn't Adam Lindemann pick up a similar Falls piece recently?

The main thing I see with this work is taking things from the past such as action painting and adding immaturity and/or youthfulness. But as Mose pointed out he seems to have missed the mark with these pie paintings. Perhaps he should have silk screened on faces of teenagers on the canvas or something like that. As is I just don't really follow what the concept is. I don't remember ever throwing pies against a wall in my younger years.

Welcome to SF. Not cheap, but there is a reason for that. What neighborhood?

I wonder if these pieces are the standard 5 x 6.5ft or whatever. I heard that those sized works will be $140k Well, I figured it would be something ridiculous like that, but was anticipating - or hoping nothing that much more than 100k. In either case, I will happily put my foot in my mouth regarding their price appreciation being paced and sustainable. There hadn't been anything public all last year up until Fermata to reference and compare. But as of December 2010 at the NIA Basel group show, the two 6.5x6.5ft paintings were still priced at 53k. If those are now almost 3x what they were only a year and a few months ago, you'd have to agree that falls into the too far too fast category. Obviously, PRISM is known for juiced prices and shifty practices, but that can't account for such a ludicrous price adjustment. Whether they warrant these prices or not is a different story. They are certainly large paintings, there is absolutely demand for their work, there were some historic auction results last year, and perhaps prices were suppressed at that 50k primary range for too long. But at 150k, even for something that is 6x6ft, there's arguably better value in other artists out there. Love the work, but agree 100%. I'll wait to reserve judgment until I see the prices with my own eyes though.

Well, first of all, lowpro sucks for playing the mod god card. If I edit a post, there is probably a reason I did so. To dig it up and re-quote it is BS IMO. PM me please.
Regarding OG, I am sitting on the sidelines and waiting for my Prism preview from Jen. After receiving the preview I will probably still be on the sidelines if pricing lands where I expect it to. Good luck to all, regardless. Hopefully this isn't just a money grab, but I suspect that it is.

Anybody have any idea what it was that made these guys "blow up"? Maybe I am missing something, but for my $$$ I would much rather have a McGee.
