just watched sfmoma's expansion video here ( www.sfmoma.org/our_expansion/expansion_project) and it notes (@ 5:10) that they acquired Tauba's 50/50 floor (i think it is varied ed of 3 - am curious if they are planning a dedicated location for it in the new construction)

"the motive on the edition is a photo of the floor in Tauba Auerbach's spray room; it's the overspray from making the Fold paintings. She has over 1000 photos of the floor over the years and she is working on a book of them that is intended to be released during the fall this year."

Can't say I'm entirely convinced by the process - isn't "hey my studio floor looks cool, it's basically a piece in itself" a thing almost every artist on earth goes through? Usually with results nowhere near as good as that, mind

Very true. But damn if I haven't fallen for it many times.
The gold studio floor examples shown in Rudolf Stingel's Gagosian show were absolutely stunning. Dieter Roth famously did it as well. I've also loved Nate Lowman examples I've been shown. Could go on and on.
Same general process, very different results though.
