I absolutely adore that Allison Sommers piece! I'll definitely have to become more familiar with her work after seeing that. Thanks, Ill! They're even better in person. The opening was really great, and Allison is a sweetheart. She comes from your neck of the woods... Charlottesville. A lot more pieces sold last night, but there's still one I'm hankering for that's available... I'm trying to resist.

Couple gems left and her sculptures are just SO amazingly detailed. If you've your eye on a sculpture, know we've some wiggle room on those, as we both agonized on what to price those at, as soooo much work in them. They are all sculpted out of paper clay, then hardened and she's gone back in with a knife and carved out extra details, such as every lil' bump and wart on the lil' longfellow guys that were sent to the gallows. She plains to build on her 3-D world, so get in early on that aspect of her work, as they are just magical. Put under a nice dome, they'd be good for the ages. Speaking of, next batch we plan to have ready to go in glass domes and all. Big things planned for her solo in our main room next year.

Well, this was officially one of my " Dream Pieces of Art," which was unaccountably still available, so how could I resist? Thomas Doyle – "Acceptable Losses"

Thanks, you guys, for all the nice comments about this piece here and in the Doyle thread. I really feel he has so much potential... He seems to have an innate ability to encapsulate ominous, visceral emotions in these little glass domes.
This piece brings up all sorts of emotions about past relationships, memories of my childhood and my parents' divorce, as well as a sense of godlike perspective and the isolation and containment of bad thoughts. It's working on so many levels, for something so ostensibly simple.

In honor of Kelly's first Los Angeles solo show opening tomorrow night at Thinkspace, I thought I would post this little piece I picked up a few months ago. Hope to see you all there tomorrow night! Kelly Vivanco "Curious"

Well, Thinkspace's Kelly Vivanco/Sarah Joncas show was kind of the show of the year for me, so I guess it was inevitable that I bought something from each of them. (I hereby announce that there will be absolutely no new art purchases until October!) Sarah Joncas "Dinner and a Movie" Kelly Vivanco "Curious Bouquet"

Wow, I love the Joncas. Pieces like that are so great that any print [which would invariably be smaller] wouldn't capture all of the power of it.

as awesome as that berens piece is, I'm most jealous of the thomas doyle. That's my all time favorite of his stuff. Congratulations. (plus kicking myself for not inquiring since for some reason I thought it had already been sold when I found out about him though Hi Fructose back in april) Absolutely amazing collection all around though.

Thanks, greenhorn! I just got back from picking Thomas' piece up at LeBasse Projects, who tell me they'll be doing a show with him in the spring. I'm with you on thinking that Doyle was gone... I saw it on his site way back in the middle of last year, and assumed it was sold at the time. I guess it was just meant to be mine, because the odds of it sticking around until I bought it couldn't have been very good. Now I have to move some things around to give it a proper showcase spot. I went down to Subtext last night for Kelly Vivanco and Jason Limón's show. Of course I couldn't let a show go by without buying one of Kelly's pieces... but everyone knows I'm weak that way. This one is kind of a prequel to " Predawn," I think. "Crossing View"

Very nice pick up. You have the best Kelly collection! Really enjoyed this show and must say that I've been very very tempted the last few shows. (trying to be good about my finances.) I've been rewarded with her doing better and better work! Maybe soon...

I've been rewarded with her doing better and better work! Maybe soon... Thanks, Tan! You should get on the list for her October solo at Halogen. I was down at her place last weekend, and she showed me what she's starting on for that show... a graduated series of round paintings on wood. There will be a very special sculptural piece as well.

Well, those of you who follow the "Dream Pieces of Art" thread already know about this... Nine months ago, I was offered this 2007 Berens piece from The Heaven Show, and it's taken me this long to come up with the cash. That's nosebleed territory for me, art-wise. But this is my Mona Lisa, my Starry Night... the instant I saw it, it was love at first sight. I kind of think it was meant to be. Chris Berens "First Snow (Guide Me Home)" As always, I will also be adding this image to the top of this thread.

I am truly privileged to have the opportunity to look after these fragments of Andrew Hem's vision. This body of work is powerful and raw, yet simultaneously atmospheric and intimate. Meaningful on a level to which few artists aspire. Soul-stirring. "Beginning of an Era" "Best Find a New Way"
